Will you be in Tucson when I come for graduation?  I sure hope so.  You’re making me gyoza!!  :D

Love a hungry and Japanese-food-craving,

Jen!

I joined a group on Flickr called Mugshot Thursdays. It was a friend’s idea, and we just take pictures of ourselves and our drinks on Thursdays! (I think most people use Photobooth..I do, at least.) I thought you guys might be interested, if not to join, at least to check out the pictures. :) Do join, though, if you want!! It’s an open group, and we’d love to have you.

I got my Purdue ID today. Running through the union today, trying to avoid the large groups of clueless freshmen here for orientation, I really started reminiscing about being an undergrad/living in the dorm/etc. I miss you guys a ton. It’s ridiculous.

I started to think about how great it was to live on campus, how easy life was before I had to worry about my own money and stuff, and how free I really was to do whatever the fuck I wanted. I miss it. I felt really sad and lonely as I sat there in the union’s soda fountain with my hotdog and fries.

I keep trying to remember how often I’ve been told that you make excellent friends in grad school because you suffer through the work together. And how I didn’t know anyone when I moved to Tucson, either. How I missed my friends in ABQ. (You all should note that I am still quite close with many of my friends in ABQ; don’t think that small comparison means I’ll forget you for whomever I meet here!) It doesn’t really help much. I suspect it won’t until I start meeting some more people.

I have to say that my day really turned around with the librarian appointment I had. The librarian we met with..is a Wildcat!! And her husband is still in Tucson working on his doctorate! And she knits! :D When I got home, she had sent me an email saying that it was nice to meet me and inviting me to a weekly lunch knitting group on campus.

So I guess I’m feeling better. But all I really want to say is I miss you. <3 And write more, bitches!!

back to school shopping August 9, 2009

So, in the midst of what can only be described as a bout insanity, I decided today would be a great day to go clothes shopping.  WRONG.  Apparently every parent in Tippecanoe County had the same idea.  As I battled whiny teens, cranky moms, and bored little brothers, I realized that this was the first major shopping experience I’ve had on my own (and maybe even the first not involving my mom!).

I also realized how What-Not-to-Wear-”before”-person I’ve been!  Since my job at Ventana ended, I have been such a slob, wearing little other than jeans and t-shirts.  (My hair is also in a state, but I didn’t have the time/money to take care of that today.)  I feel like I made some very successful steps away from that today.

Despite the nagging feeling that perhaps everyone who saw me out today assumed I was a highschooler myself, I have to count this excursion as a huge success.  One bra, two pairs of jeans, and eight (EIGHT!!) shirts later, I am proud to share that I spent less than $200 and didn’t murder any 14 year olds.  ..but I still wish that one or all of you had been there!

By the way, the house is really coming together.  If you haven’t already seen, I posted pictures on my own blog a little while back.  I’m hoping to have more time to post here (and there, really) now that things are calming down a bit.

Renee came to visit this weekend!!  It was our second annual unofficial 4th meetup.  Too bad it rained all day yesterday.  Gragh.  Despite the weather, we had a fantastic weekend filled with random shopping, delicious beer, a great pot roast (farmers’ market potatoes courtesy of my favorite merchant!) and one truly awful zombie flick (Zombie Wars..I literally know people who could’ve shot a better film).

Our weekend was also full of spending money, a real novelty for me after a few weeks of strict frugality.  (And what a refreshing way to relax after my stressful week of dealing with not being paid when I should have been..another story for another time.)  I feel compelled to show off my splurge:

Socks!  What can I say?  Gap was having a sale, so I got 4 pairs for less than the price of 1 normally.  What?!  I can’t wear handknits every day, you know!

So now I’m left with some neighborhood idiots who didn’t use up their fireworks, loads upon loads of laundry, and a slight dread of work tomorrow.  Why do holiday weekends have to end?

Hi there! waves I really need to get back into the habit of writing here again. It’s hard to believe that nearly a month has passed since I’ve arrived in Indiana. Time is going by so quickly, it’s unreal.

Snake and I are doing quite well (as soon as she stops trying to eat my plants, anyways). The biggest change here is, of course, the house. My closing is set for the 17th, and I’m getting really excited/anxious. I really wish I were living there already, in fact. There aren’t any good places to walk around this complex..and our daily 40 minutes worth is becoming a bore. Not to mention the fact that there is a guy on the other side of the complex I am desperately trying to avoid. I think he’s just being friendly, but he creeps me out a bit..I swear he watches out his window for when we walk by. :/

In addition to that, I want to spend time outside!! I can’t wait to sit on my porch and watch the fireflies go by with a beer/lemonade/soda/float/iced tea/coffee (alright, maybe I’ve fantasized about this a bit too much) in my hand. Renee is coming for the 4th this week, and I wish we had somewhere outside to hang. I am really looking forward to next weekend!

I have a ton more to say, but as long as it’s not all related, I’m going to try and squeeze a few more posts out of it. I miss you! <3

No, seriously.  It’s official.

This might have been the craziest and most stressful week of my entire life, but things are finally settling down (just in time for everyone to leave me, boo).

I’ll save you all of the boring details, but I made an offer on a really cute house here, and I accepted the seller’s counteroffer yesterday!!  So the house is off the market and my purchase is pending only the mortgage stuff and professional inspection of the house!

For now, I’ve picked up someone’s 2-month sublease in a small 1BR.  If all goes well, I am planning on moving into my house the end of July!

I was doing so well posting! ..and then I just stopped. Boo.

Anyways, I’m feeling a lot like B! ..only not. I’m definitely thrilled to get back to Tucson and see you all. I miss you TONS, duh. At first, I thought that it was going to be really weird getting back to school after working, and it’s going to be my last semester and all that. But then I realized it isn’t. It’s familiar, it’s awesome, and you guys are going to be there! I’m sure we’re just going to share our summer adventures and it will be like nothing had changed. It really is going to be weird graduating, though.

At the same time, it does still really suck that I’m leaving my friends here. I think we’re going to do something at work for my leaving, which will be cool, but we’re also going to have a Jen’s Last Knit Night party on Tuesday at Yarn Cravin’. It just sucks that this is the point of my friendship with these people where I’m REALLY starting to click. I mean, we’ve been friends all summer, but we’ve gotten a lot closer in the past week or two. Uh. Last night we ate ice cream for dinner. HEALTHY!

I’m dying to see you all..and I will return on the 16th. My mom’s staying the night, but then I will be free free free! We’ll do stuff. It will rock. The end.

I don’t really know what in particular to say, but my weekend has been great!

Per my usual Saturday, I hung out at Yarn Cravin’ all day yesterday.  Not per my usual Saturday..I learned how to spin!  That’s right, I made that yarn up there out of combed wool.  :o D

After closing time, Sarah and I went and hung out at Dale Ann’s for a while.  Knitting, spinning, pizza eating, beer drinking, and vacation picture sharing ensued.

Today is my mom’s birthday!  I finished her socks in time, yay!  The post office didn’t deliver them in time, boo.  I paid extra, and he said they’d be there by yesterday or maybe even Friday!  What a freakin’ liar.

I miss you all terribly, of course.  It did strike me yesterday while at YC with my friends here, however, that I may never live here again.  I will have spent 2 1/2 months being miserable/happy/confused/whatever, and I’ve met some new people that I really have a connection with.  If I never come back, at least I know that Ravelry (I like to call it Facebook for knitters) will keep us in touch, and I would definitely love to come back for a visit.

Not to get all philosophical or anything, but I’m really starting to feel as though this summer’s experience has taught me a lot more about people and relationships than it has about business or engineering.  It’s just something to think about.  I’m sure I’ve told you all before that I don’t really like meeting new people..but I LOVE getting to know them.

I just had to share this shot with you.  I’ve been growing these basil plants since I’ve been here.  The bastards are probably not even an inch tall!  I’m tempted to just throw them out, honestly.  In any case, this is a prime demonstration of climate differences.  Have you ever seen mold grow on the outside of a pot in Arizona?

PS: I think I’m going to have to get a Flickr pro account.

Hi!  Well, since Bianca cut hers..I OBVIOUSLY had to follow suit.  I think mine might be slightly longer.

So that’s what it looks like when I actually take the time to do it.

..and this is what it looks like when I just let it dry and mess around with the wax.  SO X-Men, right?

In any case, I am quite excited about my new hair..and I hope you are too!  This weekend, Renee and Stephanie were out here hanging out with me, and we had a great time.  We went shopping, saw fireworks, and played some sweet Mario Kart.  I also finally broke down and bought a French press, which is exciting.

Nothing much else going on here..work is boring and I basically live for Tuesdays.  There aren’t any crazy parties to speak of, that’s for sure.
