::knock knock knock:: “HOUSEKEEPING”
Here I am again! Consider yourself lucky…this much internet time in one week has NEVER happened since I left school!
So Day 2 in Housekeeping is OVER, praise Jesus. I only have to make it through two more days, and one of those will be shadowing a supervisor. Meaning I can get back into my suits. As strange as it sounds, my suiting collection has become like a second skin to me. My feet feel more comfortable in heels than anything else. Is that normal? Needless to say, wearing a “street clothes” to work and then changing into a Guest Room Attendant’s (aka MAID) uniform upon arrival at work today was bizarre. Below: me looking FLY – be jealous of that sexiness! (and have a good laugh while you’re at it!)
The highlight of today: wearing normal clothes to work. The worst part: Housekeeping. I worked as a Houseperson today and the lady who trained me was nice enough. So as a Houseperson, I cleaned hallways (vacuum, wiping down wall sconces, picture frames, etc.), taking out trash and linens, and…oh, that’s about it. My brain has turned to mush in a day. I ended up with a HUGE headache by the end of the day and let’s just say that the first thing I did after I fought traffic (I think ALL of Las Vegas has their high school graduations at the UNLV basketball arena, which is like RIGHT next to our dorm, so traffic and parking has been HORRIBLE ALL week long) and got home was head to the store to get a six-pack. It was THAT bad.
On top of that, the laundry chute ate my name tag. I was throwing the linens in there and something caught on my name tag, ripping it off as it went down (don’t worry, it’s magnetic), and well, that was the end of my name tag. Oops. As a result, I had to run over to Employee Services to put in to get a new one after I got off. The guy at the desk laughed at me a little bit, so that was good, but on the way back to fetch Eric to go home, I got STARED DOWN. As per usual. That’s one thing about this city: the stare down. Every where I go, no matter what I’m wearing, I inevitably get stared down by a homeboy (usually they’re black – Leah, come visit and we’ll find one for you!). For instance, I went out over the weekend with some of the kids here and had like four blacks guys in the matter of a few hours be like, “oooo girrrrl.” It never ends. And most times it amuses me, but today I’m fed up with the world. You know those I-hate-the-world-days? That’s what Housekeeping does to me…
And as promised, a picture of the new haircut – I think I like it, but it always takes me a few days to figure it out for sure. Either way, I got it done at the beauty college here for, um, $2.75. Sorry the picture isn’t better/shows more detail – apparently I haven’t quite mastered the art of self-photography to the extent that Jen has…
Leah: All the best with the move and getting settled in! You’re going to do GREAT, I know it!!
